Founded in Aalborg, Gabriel has grown into a fast-expanding international company with a strong focus on quality and sustainability. The company applies a life-cycle approach to fabric design and development and was an early mover in eliminating heavy metals from its dyeing processes. Sustainability is deeply embedded in Gabriel’s way of working, reflected in early Cradle to Cradle and OEKO-TEX certifications.
Gabriel reduces material, energy, and water use, extends product life through careful colour selection, and operates take-back programmes with customers to recover fibres and close material loops. The company also prioritises long-term supply chain partnerships, supported by a demanding supplier selection process that includes strict pre-qualification, quality testing, and clear sustainability requirements. While this approach requires significant effort, it enables smoother operations and faster progress in sustainability and circularity.
What stands out to me in Gabriel’s case is how circularity and innovation are not treated as add-ons, but as core drivers of how the company develops. That long-term, integrated approach has enabled Gabriel to build leadership in a specialised market and a competitive advantage that has been strengthened over time.
